1 MONTH!!!

This week Jo (another intern) showed me how to do clippings. All articles, stories and coverage on New Look will be sorted into different sections which are: Irish coverage, Mentions, Womenswear, Womenswear mixed, Accessories and Footwear, Accessories, Menswear, 915 and Idol. They would then get separated into sections as well as by date, all the Dec 10 and Jan 11 was put together. All the DEC 10 clippings will get sent off. This will all be marked and tallied. If coverage was low at any point we could then argue that maybe there was not enough samples or the right samples was not sent out or too much time was being spent on other stuff. New Look would then have to back up the answer to the questions with reasons as to why.

Returns to store piles up A LOT

A mountain of returns. There has been times when there has been twice as much returns and times when there has been hardly anything.
Returns on a daily basis. Sometimes 2-4 times per day. Sitting at a computer typing in returns and putting it in the correct excel spreadsheet then placing them in the correct totes can be very tiring and boring. You may get back samples which will be booked in through Fashionsoft and returned to the showroom.

Lets hope next week there will be less returns. x x x

WEEK 3!!!

The showroom is actually AMAZING. I love it, it's HUUUUGE!!! This has got to be the biggest showroom I've ever seen. Maintaining the showroom can take a while so spending most of the day in the showroom is usual as it is big. All sample returns which have been booked back in through FashionSoft will go back into the showroom; Women's, Men's, Generation 915 and Accessories will be put out in the appropriate story or back in cupboards. Each gondola is in stories. for eg. 'Limited Collection', 'Green baby' or 'Roman Holiday' will all be together but on separate gondolas.

This week I learnt how to do image requests. Press Office inbox is checked everyday to ensure image requests are being done. Many images will be gathered from the New Look website and downloaded through Packshot to receive high res images. Some emails we receive might be samples which will be the taken from the Look Book which are already high res images. Once all images have been gathered the will be emailed back to the recipient.

Until Next Week :-p x x x

WEEK 2!!!

The start of the week, going through the weekly newspapers. As it is Monday we have all the weekend newspaper to go through so there is quite a lot. All of Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, as well as all supplements which are magazines that are inside each newspaper.

Once the newspapers are gone through, scanned in, put up on the wall and filed the supplements will be gone through. Just like the newspapers with the supplements we go through them flag any coverage on new look and Scan it in. Once that is done we comp selected supplements against competitors. We comp against 10 other high street stores. If there is any mention on the selected competitors we talyl each mention including new look and this will then get put into an excel spreadsheet.

Buyers emails are done every 2weeks. Each section is split into categories ie. 'Footwear' 'Knitwear' 'Accessories' etc. Once you have your category you would search through the coverage folder which has all the coverage on new look from the Dailies (Newspapers), Weeklies, Supplements, Monthlies and Fortnightlies. it will be done through a certain time period and only between those dates will the buyers emails be done. For eg.

This is done as a PowerPoint presentation and each slide should have the publication, date, circulation EAV and PR.

We had an "intern meeting" where employees from Press gave a talk about their history, starting points, education and current status about experience and working in P.R
It was nice to hear how they each started and what made them where they are now. It was actually inspiring know that some interned from when they left school or some got a degree in a different field to where they are now. Hard work is what got Peter to where he is now being Head of Press and stepping up from an intern to doing basic work. I think we all took in a peice of their experiences.

Until next week :-) x x x

MY 1ST DAY!!!

My first day here at New Look in the Press Department. The team had welcomed me with open arms and made me feel very comfortable.

New Look Press Team Family Tree

The morning started off by checking each selected Newspaper. When going through each newspaper we check for any mentions on New Look and any fashion stories. If there is any mentions a post it will be placed on the top of the page which has New Look mentioned. All fashion stories will get pulled out, scanned into the appropriate folders and then put up on the wall for other to see. Fashion stories up on the wall from the previous days will be taken down and put on Peter's desk (Head of Press).
Once all the papers have been gone through they get stored in the cupboard.

In-store Press Office is where call ins are done. Many people from different publications such as magazines, newspapers, TV and Freelancers will come in for a store appointment. Any requests sent via email will be collected from the shop floor. All the call ins will be processed and sent out either on our courier or on a bike.
I learnt how to process each call in step by step from scanning out the items.
Also this week doing returns in-store, where each return from store which gets processed and booked in at Head office then gets delivered to store where we then process the returns back in to be put out on the shop floor. What we then do is scan in the returns, hang em, if they are accessories they will be out back in the totes.

Being my first week I must say I have learnt quite a bit and have enjoyed myself and meeting everyone on the team.

Until next week guys. x x x
